Garden, Quilt, Knit, Knit, Weave... and Book Giveaway!
Since April showers are supposed to bring May flowers, I thought it might be time I offered to giveaway a copy of my book! Post a comment to this post before April 15th, and on April 15th, I'll draw a winner, so you can start making a floral quilt in May!
This year, my gardening started indoors, planting seeds in flats, but is now moving outside. Space has been cleared for the peas, and they're now all in the ground. There are two kinds, snow peas and snap peas, and we're looking forward to eating the fruits of my labor in the future. In the meantime, I'll be watching over these, as well as the other babies that will be to small to go outside for a while, like tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and some others.
The stack of sewn blocks for the Figs and Ginger quilts is growing, and I get a feeling of satisfaction every time I get to change to the next set of colors!
I've ripped back to my mistake on the Aquitaine Cuffs, fixed the error, and am now ready to move on:
My green Oatmeal Sweater, is moving along, and for those that were wondering what I was going to make with the yarn I'm spinning, this is the project that inspired the wool purchase, but since I'm making it in the green yarn, I'll probably choose a pattern when the yarn is finished. The sleeves have been attached, and I'm now working on the pattern at the bottom of the yoke and working up, so I'm nearing the finish line! (Sorry, this isn't the best picture - the sweater is really green.)
On the weaving front, I've finished the scarf I showed you last time, and have begun to weave the last scarf on the warp. This one will go much quicker, because the treadling pattern is easier, and I'm only using one shuttle!

Flower Show Quilts Book Winner
Happy Holidays, and thank you all for such nice comments! Congratulations Dale Anne Potter, you're the winner of my book, Flower Show Quilts!!!

Time for celebration, book review and a giveaway!
Flower Show Quilts is packed with beautiful florals on patchwork backgrounds, and contains all the everything needed to re-create the quilts as I made them. There are ten projects, from table runners to lap sized quilts, and not only includes the patterns and instructions for each design, but also stepped out instructions for my methods of turned edge applique, raw edge applique, foundation piecing, and even a section dedicated to free motion quilting! While I was writing the book, I decided to make the table runner in three different colorways, just to show you that quilts don't have to be made "just like the picture in the book", you can change colors to make a quilt you will be happy living with or giving as a gift. When I was at Quilt Market in October, I saw one at the EE Schenck booth that had the flowers on a beautiful blue background!
If you already have my book, I'd really appreciate it if you would post a review on Amazon!
Last week I received an email from Martingale, letting me know that they were ordering more books printed, hurray!!!!!
I had planned to do a book giveaway closer to its release, and since that never happened, I figure there's no time like the present. So leave me a comment here or on one of my Facebook pages (links on the right side of my blog page and below) and I'll draw a winner next Monday! That gives you a week, but I'd advise you to leave the comment before you forget and miss the boat :-)

Bethany Garner
Bethany Garner, you're the winner of Skinny Quilts II, but you left no contact information, and if you don't contact me by the end of the month, I'll be forced to pull a new winner. Please contact me!

My email is on the Contact Me page of my website http://lynnmajidimehr.com/index.html , but you need to type it in, as I've left spaces around the "@" to try to keep spammers away. There is also a link to my website at the upper right of my blog.

The winner of Skinny Quilts and Table Runners 2 is

Bethany Garner! Please contact me with your snail mail address, so I can mail the book off to you.
I still have more books to give away, so I'll post another review soon. In the meantime, I'll be spending the next several days on Jury Duty, which will give me lots of time to look at books, because I just found out I can't take my knitting, as I had planned, because they have outlawed knitting needles, even the circular ones! Maybe I can get some drawing done too, and hopefully I'll think up something else to do so I don't go crazy sitting around the courthouse.
As soon as I have a chance I'll go through and upload some pictures from the past weekend. We took a ferry from Seattle, so I've got pictures of the city from the ship, and pictures of some crazy log cabin blocks that I started (those are on my phone, so I've got to see about getting them transferred to my computer, which I've never done before - another new thing to learn). Something else I'd like to know is why Blogger decides to delete my paragraph spacing sometimes, and other times / places it leaves them alone, as I want them to be (yep, it messed with this one, making it look like gobbly gook).

Madrona progress, giveaway reminder
After lots of glue basting, pinning, peeling up previously glue basted pieces, unpinning, more collage, re-shaping some of the pieces..... I think I'm almost happy with the quilt. The peninsula in the lower left still needs some work, and then back to pinning lots of pinning, so I can pick it up off the floor and begin quilting. (Of course, I'll need to warm up on something else first.)

Don't forget about the giveaway! I'll be drawing a winner next week.

Machine Quilting Made Easy - Review and Giveaway!

What can I say, I love this book! It’s the one I learned to machine quilt from, and one of the ones I always recommend to my students (along with quilting discs)! This book has all the information you need to start quilting your quilts, from adjusting the thread tension to step-by-step lessons. In the back of the book there are charts with detailed information on all kinds of threads you can quilt with as well as needles and threads that can be couched onto your quilt and all through the book are pictures showing the quilting on gorgeous quilts!
If you'd like to win a copy, just leave a comment on this post by August 18th for a chance to win. Good luck!

and the Winner is...

The random number generator at Random.org generated a number 12, and that means Life Looms Large is the winner! Email me your snail mail address and Skinny Quilts and Table Runners will be on it's way to you.
For everyone else, don't worry, you'll have another chance to win a book soon, as I work my way down through the stack of them from Martingale. I've noticed recently that I also have more than one copy of a couple books in my library, and others that I've got to thin out, so those will be coming soon as well.

Don't forget the giveaway
Today's the last day to leave a comment on my Skinny Quilts and Table Runners review and giveaway post, as tomorrow is the day to pick a winner of the first book in the stack of books I've received to review from Martingale. All the books are new, not used and it's such a beautiful book, I'm sure the winner will love it, and if you're not a quilter, maybe you know someone who does and would love to receive it!
I've found a random number generator at RANDOM.ORG, and plan to use it for this and future giveaways, as it will make it much faster, and as fair as possible:-)

Skinny Quilts & Table Runners review and giveaway
Ok, here's the stack of books I'm starting with, and the first book I'd like to tell you about is:

Some of the runners, like the Rosy Runner and Summer Picnic are quick and easy designs that I could see making as an almost last minute gift, while others like the cover quilt, Arc-i-TEXTURE stimulate my love to try out new techniques. By the SEA wants me to make it to hang on my wall, Arnold MARATHON and TEA 4 Two say “party” to me, and A Garden of SEASONS is calling me to make it, just so I can work with wool! I’m hoping I’ll have a chance to make one of these soon, but since I love all the projects in Skinny Quilts & Table Runners, there’s no telling which one could be first!

Skinny Quilts and Table Runners is a wonderful book showcasing table runners designed by 15 different designers (in their own style), which I would love to have on my table. As I turn the page to each new design, I see another beautiful runner, and wish I had time to make all of them. If I didn't already own a copy, I’d be tempted to keep it for myself, or running to the store to purchase it.

Beyond my Control - winner
Since there weren't that many interested in my little felted bag, I decided to just assign a number to the comments. The numbers were written on little papers, folded, and tossed in a paper bag. After shaking and stirring, one was pulled out - and the winner is......Knitchix!!! Contact me and I'll get the bag to you.

Busy, busy week and giveaway reminder
Here's some new reading material that I acquired this week. I'm hoping that I'll have a little time in the evenings or weekends to read through these so that I can try out some of the new techniques soon. There were a couple other books that I was looking for, but haven't found yet.

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you may remember me mentioning the book Color Shuffle, by Karla Alexander. I was trying a few different blocks from the book, trying to decide what blocks I might like to use for these prints in a large bed quilt (king or queen). I've decided to use the blocks from her pattern "The Square Within", and although I did read the instructions, I just kept cutting more strips and blocks because I need a lot more than the pattern. Since I like to speed things up by working in a batch / assembly line mode, I have cut all the blocks and now have two tall stacks of blocks to piece.
Because I'm doing some blending, not dividing all the prints into light and dark, I do have a few pieces that didn't make full stacks, so have set them aside in case I need to cut more blocks (yes, I do have more fabric). The blocks are going together nicely, and I'll trim them to size after I've finished sewing all the blocks.
While I was downloading these pictures, I happened to find this picture of a quilt I started several summers ago (maybe longer). It's somewhere in my studio, I have an idea where it is, so when I get a chance, I'll need to dig it up and finish it!
This warp is currently half threaded through the heddles on my loom, waiting for additional heddles to come in the mail. If I had done more calculating before I wound the warp, they would have been here by now, but it's ok - I really do need to be working on my quilts!
In case you didn't know, I'm doing a giveaway of a knit bag that one of my helpful son's shrunk by putting it in the dryer. It still looks nice, but is much smaller than I'd planned. The pattern and remaining yarn that go with it will be included, in case you'd like to make the strap with it. If you missed the post, you can find it by looking at the "giveaway" link on the right side of my blog.

beyond my control - giveaway
Sometimes, for one reason or another, things just don't turn out as you expect. Take this bag for example, the pattern was free with yarn purchase, and of course I chose a different colorway than any of the samples. It was easy car knitting, which was what I needed, and the shape was coming along nicely. There was such a small amount of knitting to finish the bag, I finished knitting while watching TV the other night, sewed up the bottom (if I try it again, I will use Judy's magic cast-on and not have to do any sewing).
I decided I'd toss it in the front loading washer along with some towels, because front loaders don't usually felt as well as top loaders (or so I've heard), and went about the other things I needed to do, thinking I'd check it at the end of the wash cycle.
Well, along comes one of my sons, who just tosses everything in the dryer. Of course I only found out when I went to check to see if the washer had finished running, and found it already dry, and looking like this:
Luckily it was still a bit damp, so I was able to do a bit of shaping before it finished drying, but it shrunk much more than I had intended. If I make another, I'll have to watch the washer, or hand felt it in the sink. :-)
So now what to do with it? I could just use it as a container in my studio, or maybe with some embellishment and a single shoulder strap it could work as a purse or small tote??? I think it just falls into the category of better luck next time.
I know, I'll raffle it off to someone who might want it! If you are interested in winning this bag, leave me a message before the end of the month, and a way to contact you if you happen to be the winner.
